September 6th, 07: It's been fun everyone! Really it has. When this game first opened, I couldn’t believe the activity it brought. But as time went by, it slowly began to fade. With me starting school again, I’ll be extremely busy. What does this mean? It means my duties as an admin are growing thin with my activity, and it’ll take me even longer to review applications. I’ve also began to realize that a bunch of members have been coming and going. Yes, I do realize there are still loyalties to this game, but again. I’m starting school again (in which factor, I started already at the beginning of August) and things aren’t going to be pleasing for me this year. So with all honesty, I’m going to be putting this game on HIATUS. I’m not sure when it will be back. Maybe come till Thanksgiving it might with some new surprises, or when I have more time on my hands. When I do decide to reopen this game, I will send out an email to everyone. Those of you who have been applying and haven’t gotten a review from me, I’m sorry. But again, my time as an admin has grown short, especially with other games on which I own. So until then, I’m again, putting this game on Hiatus. I also think that with school starting for pretty much everyone (to my knowledge) it’ll give everyone a break. So long, until then!

Dream Quest

The Concept
In a distant, nefarious future, the Earth has been reduced to a handful of cities, and aside from these futuristic Edens, has become a godforsaken wasteland. Athens, the first new civilization and by far the most advanced, is a gilded prison for its citizens. A corrupt and depraved Government ruled by a fiendish monarch has turned what was once an unblemished paradise into a veritable nightmare.

In these, the most arduous times the world has seen since the third World War, there is but a single method of escape: sleep. All the worries of a broken past melt away once the eyes close and the breathing slows. In fact, one Athenian felt so emphatically about it, that he designed a device to ensure that not a single night’s sleep would be lost to nightmares of the real world. What he didn’t realize was that this Dreamscape device could, with the help of Magic not known to our world, lock-in to a mystical land of a separate realm.

Now, those rare and fortunate few that have been chosen by this… Magic… can break away from this life and experience the mystery and magic of Aspera. For them, every single night has become a Dream Quest.

“Dream Quest inspires the heart, mind, and soul”
-Elliot Swashenbuck of Aspera Weekly

“Look out Patrick Swayze, Stormblade is here!”
-Cal Enderson of Athens Entertainment Tonight

“It was the best 3 years of my life.”
-Lil’ Will Will

“If I had to choose one Sci-Fi/Fantasy RPG to join with the word ‘Dream’ in the title, it would definitely be this one.”
-Random Role Player

The Community
As an RPG created by friends, we strive to be a Community built on friendships. We aren't just looking for writers, we're looking for new faces and new voices and new point of views to share the downtime between posts. So if you're in need of more than just a place to exercise your muse... a place for comradery and fun times, and goofy joking, and happy days, then Dream Quest is the place for you.

Unless you smell weird. In that case, please avoid us.

A Final Note
Day by day, this RPG comes together, continually formed and molded by the wonderful writers already adventuring in these worlds of my creation. We are still a new community, with hopes of a bright future, so please drop on by if for no other reason than to say hello or advertise. We’re always looking for new friends to create our art with, but unbiased constructive criticism is welcome too. Thanks for reading, and we hope that, whether you join or not, your muse blesses you with the inspiration to be brilliant.

Sincerely,

Ian Jones

Intro:
"And you want to turn pirate yourself, is that it?"
Or how about an officer in His Majesty's Royal Navy? Perhaps a damsel in distress?
If you liked Pirates of the Caribbean, why not live it?

RPG is a game, as the name says, and we enjoy having fun but we do take our writing seriously. We are open to both beginners and experienced RPers but have an application process and expect a certain level of writing skills. We don't expect you to write posts a mile long, but we do keep a bit of quality control over the characters we accept (no Mary Sues, thank you!), and we ensure that there is no godmodding or threadjacking of any kind.

We have a limit on the number of female pirates that will be accepted and are currently looking for male pirates to help fill out our existing crews.

Plot/Timeline

  • Pirate's Cache does NOT consider DMC or AWE canon for all plots
  • Pirate's Cache does NOT have a board-wide plot
  • There are various plots and various timelines throughout the forum
  • The Port Royal and Tortuga timelines are generally set between CotBP and DMC with a supposed Barbossa resurrection
  • The Tales from the Four Winds and The Godforsaken Spit of Land forums can have any number of timelines depending on each individual story created

Site Plot:
Ten Years Later

Ten Years have passed since Calypso was released.
Ten Years have passed since Lord Cutler Beckett was killed and the East India Company retreated.
Ten Years have passed since the pirates won victory over the Caribbean.
Ten Years have passed since Will Turner was bound to his service upon the Dutchman.
Now, a new age has dawned.

The East India Company is stirring once more. They were never defeated, they merely retreated. They are now ruled by the man who was once a lieutanant of Beckett's, Theodore Groves. They seek revenge upon the pirates and are once again set of expelling them from the Caribbean.

As the East India Company stirs, another power is rising once more, in seek of vengence. Calypso, Goddess of the Oceans, seeks to supply harsh judgement upon those who once sought to imprison her, and she commands with her, a force all of her own.

So what will you do? Will you fight with the Pirate Lords to keep the dream of piracy alive, or will you fight with the East India Trading Company or Calypso, and seek to crush it.

The future of the Caribbean could well rest in your hands.

Many things can change in ten years....

Port Royal
In 1765, things in Port Royal are not what they once were. The town is not the beautiful and upstanding city it used to be, primarily thanks to a horrendous earthquake that rattled the land four years before. An entire section of the town sunk into the ocean, and many other buildings were disturbed and thousands of lives lost. In the days that followed, disease littered the population and hasn’t yet left the secluded area. Most of the town now stands deserted, save for a few proud and stubborn residents.

Among these residents are Elizabeth Turner and her young son William. They live in the abandoned governor’s mansion now that it stands unguarded and unlocked. Any sort of luxury Elizabeth might have had in years previously are now absent, and the two must scrounge for necessities and barter with visiting pirates for food. Port Royal has become a new Tortuga, and an even seedier and more dangerous version of a pirate haven. It’s hardly the best place to raise a child, but Elizabeth has no where else to go and knows that soon her husband will return there for his decade’s visit.

Pirates
Ten years is a long time, especially to those who were already in their waning years to begin with. Certain pirates like Jack Sparrow and Hector Barbossa would be well into their twilight years by this time, if not for a certain side trip that took them both to Florida. The two pirates found the Fountain of Youth, the Agua de Vida, and each of them received a sip (though Barbossa’s was pure accident). They have managed to prolong their life into staying the same way they were once they began drinking the Water. It possesses healing abilities but cannot bring things back from death. It won’t prevent either pirate from being killed.

Any other pirates from the Black Pearl’s crew would have felt the ravages of time, for what pirate in their right mind would share something as precious as time-stopping water? The crew would need to be replaced over the years that go by, with the exception of captain and first mate. Sparrow and Barbossa argue over their positions accordingly.

The Antagonists
Ten years is not enough for a certain sea goddess to let go of her grudge. Calypso’s anger has only increased as she seeks a way to avenge her honor, and she’s finally come up with the way how. The so-called “Brethren Court” is the target of her ire, and in the ten years she’s waited she has acquired a small armada of her own. With her special minions she seeks to take down all the Pirate Lords, as her “minions” are nothing of this world.

Calypso has gathered to her a trio of legendary sailors that many mortals have only heard about in stories. Odysseus, a previous lover of the sea nymph, Sinbad, the legendary sailor of seven voyages, and Tien Hou, the Empress of Heaven and the guardian of fishermen. All three of them are under Calypso’s domain and do her bidding, setting their sights on the nine Pirate Lords.

However she also has designs on two other famous sailors that had once been mere mortals: Will Turner of the Flying Dutchman and the former naval officer James Norrington. She offers them both the chance for mortal happiness, Will with his family and Norrington alive with his honor, provided they help her dispatch the Pirate Lords. She would even be willing to let Elizabeth off, unless one of the other sailors get to her first. However it’s hard to say if Calypso will keep her word to either gentleman. The sea is ever-changing and unpredictable.

If you can survive all of that, you just might make it to Fiddler's Green.

A time of change has fallen upon Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. With Lord Voldemort’s announced return, fear flew throughout the wizard world. A series of violent attacks by the Dark Lord and his followers, believed by muggles to be natural disasters, struck many places throughout the world, alarming the wizarding world of how much danger was upon them. Thousands were killed in the form of earthquakes, tornadoes, fires, and hurricanes. The feelings of safety that once harbored in the minds of witches and wizards due to the Boy Who Lived had ceased, and now all that remained was the infamous question: where would be struck next?

Worried about the safety of the up and coming generation of witches and wizards, Professor Dumbledore came to an agreement with the headmasters of the other two largest magical academies in Europe, Madame Maxime of Beauxbatons and Professor Novikov, Karkaroff’s replacement, of Durmstrang. The agreement was to have all three schools join as one until the safety of the students was no longer in jeopardy. As a result, Durmstrang and Beauxbatons students are now residing in Hogwarts, which is the largest of the three, and the security of the school is tighter than ever.

The Golden Trio are now entering their sixth year at Hogwarts, and must get used to a massive amount of changes. With the whole wizarding world on edge, trust has flown down to a minimum, and no one is positive what side others will choose. Only one thing is certain; unity is needed to stop the Dark Lord and protect the witches and wizards of the world. The first step has been taken to bring back the sense of safety the wizarding world used to have, but the future is still looking darker than ever.
------
How will this story end? Will our tragic hero meet his demise at the hands of Lord Voldemort and his groupies or will you join the resistance and help save the wizarding world? You decide here at trials && tribulations;;

Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me. We pillage, we plunder, we rifle, and loot, Drink up, me 'hearties, yo ho. We kidnap and ravage and don't give a hoot, Drink up me 'hearties, yo ho." The glasses clinked and the laughter continued as Arianna ran across the bar singing the old seafaring tune louder than the lot of them. She smiled brightly a the crowd around her as she stood upon the barkeeps table as she did every night and start her songs to make them men buy her more drinks and therefore make her more money. Besides, the drunker they got, the more they lost to her at cards and dice and the less they were able to notice her cheating.

Laughing playfully Arianna bent down and poured some rum in a man's mouth, reaching behind him and pulling a watch from his back pocket as he got an eye full of her chest. She knew that it looked like pure silver at the very least and would fetch a pretty penny around the port. Something to live off of at least until the next rum ship came in. She would do very nicely with about ten or eleven more of the same sort of course, but that couldn't be helped. It was the luck of the draw and the luck of the sea that gifted her with her pickings, she would just have live with that as she had for some time now.

The rum burned her throat slightly as she polished off the rest of the bottle as the men sang another refrain of the song and then cheered for her as she broke the empty bottle on some bloke's head who was trying to look up her skirts. She smiled prettily and kicked the man's body over and off of the stool, using that, and the hands offered to her to jump down from the counter top as the rest begged her for a little of the man's luck and another song maybe a dance. "Gentleman! I am not entirely sure I've had enough to drink for that kind of talk!"

They laughed and a crowd shoved their way to the bar to fill their orders and offer her a drink. Arianna mearly smiled and flirted, pretending to be a little more tipsy than she really was. It was a night like any other and a trick that worked every time. The thought made her smile as she drank down another glass of rum with the simple and truest toast she knew. "To freedom gentlemen!"

To freedom for tonight anyway. She wasn't sure if she quite had anymore freedom after the deal she had made with Tia Dalma. She would be sailing under a ressurected captain with a cursed crew as soon a she was ordered. She would have to be careful, and follow instruction. That was something Arianna could hardly call freedom; to what purpose she was doing this, she didn't quite know yet, but at the same time, it seemed the prizes she could recieve and the answers she could get would outweigh the danger. Besides, she had built up quite a tolerance for careful action in this bar and knew how to get herself out of trouble in a pinch.

As pirates were gathered in the Brethren Court for the benefit of the pirate community as a whole, so our Brethren Court is to be a gathering place for everyone who likes to roleplay Pirates of the Caribbean: a place where we can meet and help our fellow POTC RPers. In addition to that, we have a set of quality demands to make it easier for people to find a decent, literate POTC RPG. If you own a POTC RPG, you can ask that it be judged. If it conforms to our standards, it will be put on our 'approved' list, where people looking for a good RPG are likely to find it.

What is the Brethren Court for?
- getting feedback and suggestions on characters and plots
- recruiting members
- technical help (graphics, CSS, etc.)

What is the Brethren Court not for?
- RPing
- discussing the POTC movies

Special features for POTC RPG owners:
- discuss spammers and trouble members; get information on them from other RPG owners so you can avoid the trouble coming to your RPG
- get your RPG on our approved list

For more information, check out our FAQ.

A current list of BC-approved RPGs can be found here.

A smile curling her lips upward, Chris leaned a bit on the railing and surveyed the Captain's progress. The Amazing and Incredible Captain Jack Sparrow... He was everything the myths and legends embodied and more. Chris couldn't help but feel the tickle of childish excitement as Jack climbed up the rope SHE had thrown to the ship. She was helping Captain Jack Sparrow! A bit of euphoria overcame her, and she kept it contained. Barely.

"Just meself, sir. Well, there's the pilot for tonight, but I think he's a bit preoccupied at the moment. Midnight watch, you know." Indeed, anyone who wasn't on deck, but was in the rigging, was probably asleep, drunk, or both. It had been a fair amount of time since Chris had seen anyone else on deck besides herself and the pilot.

A brief flicker of a thought ran through Chris' brain, but only for a moment: She could get in trouble by Captain Barbossa for this. True, letting a marooned Captain back onto his own ship only seemed fair -- Chris was all for fairness. But, perhaps, it wouldn't be all bad. Captain Barbossa had to know about the unhappiness since Jack vacated the ship, and now he was back. The two could possible co-exist in a friendly-like way. It was improbable but...possible.

Chris again ignored all comments directed towards her presuming that she was a lad. After all, she preferred being regarded as one of the lads. Made things a might easier and made sure less noses were broken. She reached forward and grabbed Jack's right hand, holding the weathered hand in strong grip before pulling him up the rest of the way. Loki let out a shriek from somewhere above as the Captain's feet landed back on the deck of his ship. "Welcome back aboard the Black Pearl, Captain Sparrow."

The screeching cry of a familiar tone sent his mouth curling forward in a puckered grimace before drawing tightly back across his teeth enough to make his lips squeak across the metal and gold. Fingers tightened around the main rope and Jack ran the tip of his tongue across his bottom lip. Just the primate he wanted to see and with a freshly packed pistol to boot. Sparrow closed one eye then the other before returning with a crooked smile at the foreign voice. It wasn’t Marty or Ragetti, definitely not Cotton… maybe, nah. Young was all he could gather, what was Barbs doing with new crew on his ship. Hector was going to receive a very rude awakening. The thud of the rope’s end landing beside him in his dinghy made him look as if staring at a exotic object before recognizing an answer to a unasked question of how he was going to get himself up there.

“Don’t mind if I do lad.” He stepped from the bow to the floor of his dinghy and with raised hands for balance grabbed the rope and wrapped it around the length of his arm once before he and gave it a mighty tug. Nothing. He yanked again before looking up, squinting in the dark. “Oh, for…” Sighing he pushed the tricorner hat further on his brow before spitting into his hands. Looked like he was going to have to do this the hard way. Tired muscles awakened to sudden use as Jack hefted himself up. One hand over the other, curling the thickly braided rope around his legs using them as leverage.

Halfway up he paused, staring at the deeply grained panel of the Pearl. “I don’t suppose there’s any more of you fine gentlemen waiting for me?” Slipping Jack clung to the rope, eyes wide before regaining his momentum. “With fine pistols aimed at my lovely head?” Huffing it the last little bit, the triangular hat appeared before the weathered face of the pirate peered from the side at the shadowed person. “How’s about a hand for yer Captain boy.”

A sudden voice from the darkness made Chris yelp and reel backwards from the railing. It awoke Loki, who shrieked and leaped from his owner. He scrambled across the deck to the foremast and scrambled up it. The monkey perched in the rigging and let down low, almost cackling cries to those below. Chris walked cautiously back to the rail and peeked down, her eyes taking a moment to adjust to the blackness below. She half-expected to see Beelzebub resting below, arms reaching to bring her to the depths.

Instead, she was very pleasantly surprised to see the dredlocked head of Captain Jack Sparrow, sitting in a small dinghy down at the waterline. "Captain!" She exclaimed in surprise, her mouth opening in shock, and not even correcting him in incorrectly calling her a lad. "Surely!" She stuttered, and she gazed down at him in awe. The incredible, infamous, and great Captain Jack Sparrow he truly was. He had been marooned, and yet here he was, back at his ship.

"Care for a line, captain?" Chris queried, before snatching up a coil of rope lying nearby and throwing it over. "I think I be right in guessing that ye've come to get yer ship back."
